James Burkart Associates, Inc. has vast irrigation and pumping station experience with the design and construction administration of well over 600 major commercial and golf irrigation systems.  For 23 years Mr. Burkart owned and operated Irrigation Systems Company, Inc., a Columbus based commercial and golf irrigation installation business.  He closed down this company in 2001 to devote more of his time to irrigation consulting.  Prior to closing, Irrigation Systems Company, Inc. they had installed 29 complete golf course irrigation systems including the New Albany Country Club and Golf Club, New Albany, Ohio, The Columbus Country Club, Columbus, Ohio, The Lakes Golf and Country Club, Westerville, Ohio, and The Bear at Kings Island, Mason, Ohio, to name a few.  The operation of Irrigation Systems Company, Inc. has given his associates at James Burkart Associates, Inc. a unique advantage of being aware of the latest technology, establishment of accurate computer generated installation estimates, and appropriate installation procedures.  "We feel with our past experiences, diverse landscape architectural background, strong cost estimating skills, and hands on knowledge, make my firm very well suited to provide your golf course with solid professional irrigation consulting services".

He personally chaired one series of the technical conference proceedings at the 1985irrigation Rotors International Irrigation Exposition and Conference in Fresno, California.  In February, 1990, he was bestowed with the title “Mr. Irrigation” by the Rain Bird Sprinkler Manufacturing Company and The Wolf Creek Company, Ohio Rain Bird Master Distributor.  No other individual has been given this distinction.  The award was presented for his influence and guiding hand in designing professional irrigation systems.  His firm continues to enjoy a strong relationship with each of the three major irrigation manufacturers (Rain Bird, Toro, and Hunter), which allows them to have firsthand knowledge of the latest developments in sprinkler design and central computer software.

The Golf Club, New Albany, Ohio
Double Row 18 hole retrofit with new 1,500gpm variable frequency drive (VFD) pumping station.  Satellite/central consisted of PC with software and handheld radio control.

Upper Arlington School District Athletic Fields, Upper Arlington, Ohio
Automated system for four (4) school sites including two (2) football fields and three (3) soccer fields.  Services included design of well, pump controls, backflow prevention, flow monitoring sensors, set up of school district central irrigation computer network.

City of Dublin Emerald Parkway, Dublin, Ohio
Automated design for 6,000 LF roadway/boulevard system design, included water taps, backflow prevention, flow monitoring sensors, and hardware/telephone communication controlled PC central/satellite network.

CompuServe, Hilliard, Ohio
Automated system for corporate site.  Services included master planning for 80 acre site irrigation system, pumping station, pond recharge well, flow monitoring sensors, and hardwire communication controlled central/satellite network.

Bolton Field Golf Course Irrigation Project, Columbus, Ohio
Radio communication controlled central/satellite 18 hole, single row system with completed coverage at tees and greens.  Services include a 700gpm VFD pump station design and pump house with pond recharge well controls.

Strongsville School District Athletic Fields Irrigation Project, Strongsville, Ohio
Automated system for two (2) football fields, one (1) baseball field, and three (3) general sport fields.  Services included design of booster pumps, backflow prevention, etc.

The Lakes Golf and Country Club, Westerville, Ohio
Automated system surrounding clubhouse and including adjacent amenities.  Design of pressure reducing valves, satellite controls with golf course computer, etc.

Perry Park Irrigation Project, Worthington Parks and Recreation Department, Worthington, Ohio
Automated system for two (2) baseball fields and two (2) overlapping sports fields.  Services included outfitting the system with a master valve and flow monitoring sensor for future connection to citywide computer control network.

State Capitol (Capitol Square) Renovation Irrigation Project, Columbus, Ohio
Automated system design for State Capitol grounds.  Services included design of booster pump, backflow prevention, etc.

Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio
Automated system design for entire campus including sport fields.  Services included design of water taps, metering, backflow prevention, booster pumps and master controls linked through campus main computer.

AmeriFlora '92 Exposition Irrigation Project, Columbus, Ohio
Automated design for the 1992 Outdoor Festival site.  Services included design of 12 site water taps, central computer controlled system with satellite control modules, and flow monitoring.  Projected water usage and cost studies were provided.

Hilliard High and Middle School Project, Hilliard, Ohio
Automated system covering varsity football, baseball, and softball fields.  A manual quick coupler system was provided for the balance of the sport fields.  Services included design of wet well and vertical turbine pumping station.

Tuttle Crossing Irrigation Project, Columbus, Ohio
Automated system design for highway interchange.  Services included design of well, pump control station, pumping station with wet well, etc.  Also developed water usage and cost studies.

Southpark Warehouse Complex Irrigation Project, Grove City, Ohio
Automated system for Phase I buildings and street frontage.  Services included master planning of balance of site, design of pond recharge well, pump control station, pond level controls, wet well, pumping station, etc.

The Columbus Dispatch Printing Facility, Columbus, Ohio
Automated system for corporate site.  Services included design of well pump control station, chemical treatment, etc.  Project water usage cost studies.

Ohio University Athletic Mall, Athens, Ohio
Automated system design for varsity baseball stadium and softball complex.

Avery/Muirfield Road Over SR 161/US 33 Interchange, Dublin, Ohio
Automated system for interchange improvements.  Services included design of two (2) 300 gpm VFD pumping stations with wet wells, two (2) 80 gpm pond recharge wells, flow monitoring sensors, and satellite controllers.  The system is capable of determining the location of water line breaks or broken sprinkler heads and shutting down only those problem areas while providing an alert for Park Staff.  The system is managed via radio communication for computer central located at city park maintenance facility.

Easton Town Center, Columbus, Ohio
Automated system for retail/entertainment complex.  Services included design of five (5) site water taps, satellite control system which will be linked to the Easton overall project computer.

Worthington McCord Park Project, Worthington, Ohio
The project consisted of developing irrigation for the five (5) McCord Park softball fields and two (2) soccer fields.  A test well was drilled to determine the suitability of ground water as a primary water source.  In conjunction with McCord Park, a citywide central irrigation control system was developed.  This system included the City Municipal Building, Central Fire Station, Griswold Senior Center, Olentangy Park, Perry Park, McCord Park, and the Village Green.  The system is capable of determining the location of water line breaks or broken sprinkler heads and shutting down only those problem areas while providing an alert for Park Staff.  Communication between the remote sites was achieved through varied methods including radio transmission, phone lines, and hard wire routing.

Losantiville Country Club, Cincinnati, Ohio
Double row 18 hole retrofit of an existing poorly designed double row system.  The new system included upgraded satellites with hardwire connection to central control module package.
